SODA FIRE

In the soda fire process, soda ash (sodium carbonate) is mixed with water and then sprayed into the kiln at a maturing temperature. At this point, sodium vapor combines with silica in the clay to form sodium silicate glaze.

Atmospheric firing is very exciting to me because I can continue to influence the surface through the firing process. In addition, there is an element of the unknown. This exciting process produces surfaces difficult to achieve through other methods.
